Abstract

In cooperative spectrum sensing based on energy detection, there are two common techniques taken into account - Hard Decision Combining (HDC) and Soft Decision Combining (SDC). Several researches has addressed that SDC has better detection performance than HDC. Therefore, in this paper, we focus on Equal Gain Combining (EGC)–based soft decision under Lognormal fading channel. We propose using Moment-generating function (MGF) to approximate probability density function (PDF) of power sum of lognormal variables. Then we utilize approximated PDF for evaluating cooperative detection performance. Moreover, we also consider the optimal number of cooperating Cognitive Radios (CRs) using EGC-based soft decision
