combined with fertilizing for development of sweet orange in Hung YenSustainable orange farming is considered as one of the important agricultural development strategies of Hung Yen
province. In this study, the farming practices of sweet oranges in Hung Yen have been comprehensively investigated.
Our results revealed that the surface water or surface combined with groundwater was mostly used as the major
irrigation method in the cultivation of sweet oranges, causing water loss, root erosion and fertilizer washout. Based
on the investigation of farming practices, an improved irrigation approach was proposed by using a droplet irrigation
system around the root combined with the automated fertilizing model in the orange growing area of Hung Yen.
Particularly, this system was initially demonstrated to be water- and fertilizer-save, maintain the soil humidity,
prevent the soil and fertilizer erosions and reduce the labor costs.Thi Quyen Haquyenht@vnu.edu.vnThi Kim Thu DuongThi Na HoangVan Lam TranDuc Ha Chucd.ha@vnu.edu.vnGia Vuong Nguyen
