Abstract

A multi-hop mobile ad hoc network is a collection of wireless mobile nodes dynamically forming a temporary network without the usage of any existing network infrastructure or centralized administration. They are self-organized and used in disaster relief, conference, and battlefield environments where infrastructure had been destroyed or does not exist. Because of the unpredictable dynamically moving nature of mobile nodes, the overhead of routing traffic in an ad hoc network is likely to be higher than that in a wire-line network. Consequently, routing protocol have been playing crucial role in the efficiency of overall network operation. There are numerous proposals have been submitted, however many aspects of them needed more investigation and evaluation especially performance and QoS. In this paper, we will evaluate recent development in ad hoc network routing protocols and gateway discovery for Internet access within data intensive environment as well as present quantitative analysis base on simulation by ns-2 network simulator.
