The first change that makes Awerbuch-Schulman protocol better is to eliminate unnecessary messages used in the original version. The second change that also improves the protocol is to reduce the size of process messages. In addition, we suggest a self-stabilizing version of the Awerbuch-Schulman protocol as well.
