"Although cognitive radio networks (CRNs) were\r\noriginally intended as a powerful solution to enhance spectrum\r\nutilization, it can also be used to improve reliability by avoiding\r\ninterference in the 2.4 or 5 GHz band. Using multiple relay nodes\r\nin CRNs, the outage probability, i.e., the probability that the endto-end signal-to-noise ratio drops below a predefined threshold,\r\ncan be reduced significantly. This implies that the probability\r\nthat a message is not delivered within a specific time frame,\r\ncan be kept below a required threshold, even when there are\r\nconstraints on energy efficiency in terms of peak transmit power.\r\nThis is particularly useful for industrial networks with realtime constraints. However, using CRNs may also reveal secret\r\ninformation to eavesdroppers (EAVs). Therefore, guaranteeing\r\nsecure and reliable communications in CRNs is still a challenging\r\nproblem. To this end, the secrecy performance of a proactive\r\ndecode-and-forward relaying scheme in a cognitive cooperative\r\nradio network is investigated. More specifically, analytical as well\r\nas approximate expressions for the secrecy outage probability and\r\nprobability of non-zero secrecy capacity are derived to evaluate\r\nthe system performance. Numerical results show that the approximation tightly match the analytical results and simulations,\r\nand thus it can be used to provide a fast evaluation of the\r\nsecurity and reliability of communications using a considered\r\nassignment of relay nodes in a cognitive cooperative radio\r\nnetwork (CCRN). Consequently, our results enable to secure\r\nthe communication, and increasing the reliability, availability,\r\nrobustness, and maintainability of wireless industrial network,\r\nsubject to various constraints from the CRN"^^ .
