Abstract

This work presents the nonlinear dynamic response and free vibration of laminated functionally graded carbon nanotubes reinforced composite (FG-CNTRC) plates resting on elastic foundations. The laminated nanocomposite plates are reinforced by single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) that are assumed to be uniformly distributed (UD) or functionally graded (FG) distributed along the thickness direction. The laminated nanocomposite plates are made of various amorphous polymer matrices: Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) and poly{(m-phenylenevinylene)-co-[(2,5-dioctoxy-p-phenylene) vinylene]} (PmPV). The nonlinear equations are solved by both Galerkin method and Runge-Kutta method based on Reddy’s third-order laminated plate theory. Detailed studies for the influences of various types of distribution and volume fractions of carbon nanotubes (CNTs), geometrical parameters, Winkler and Pasternak elastic foundations on the nonlinear dynamic response and natural frequencies and the number of layers and lamination angle of laminated FG-CNTRC plates are examined.
